These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of Speklo (“the App,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), a desktop application for meeting transcription, speaker matching, and AI-powered summaries, operated by Janko Tomsic s.p.

By downloading, installing, or using Speklo, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.

1. Description of Service

Speklo is a desktop application that provides:

  • Meeting recording and import — Capture audio from your microphone and system audio, or import existing audio files
  • Transcription — Convert audio recordings to text using cloud-based or local speech-to-text engines
  • AI-powered summaries — Generate meeting summaries using artificial intelligence
  • Speaker identification — Match voice segments to known meeting attendees
  • Semantic search — Search across your meeting content using natural language
  • Focus Board — A kanban-style task manager for extracting and tracking action items from meetings
  • Chat — Ask questions about your meetings using retrieval-augmented generation
  • Google Calendar integration — Sync your calendar events to match with meeting recordings (optional, read-only)

Speklo follows a local-first architecture: all your data is stored on your device. Speklo does not operate servers that store your personal data or meeting content.

Speklo is currently available for macOS (Apple Silicon native). Support for additional platforms may be added in the future.

2. Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) Model

Speklo is free to use. To access AI-powered features, you must obtain and provide your own API keys from one or more of the following third-party services:

  • Anthropic (Claude) — For AI summaries, chat responses, focus board processing, and specification generation
  • OpenAI — For text embeddings, query analysis, and optional AI features
  • Google (Gemini) — For optional AI features
  • AssemblyAI — For cloud-based audio transcription (optional; a local transcription alternative is available)

Your responsibilities under the BYOK model:

  • You are solely responsible for obtaining API keys in compliance with each provider's terms of service
  • You are solely responsible for all costs, charges, and usage fees incurred through your API keys
  • You are responsible for maintaining the security of your API keys
  • You must comply with each provider's acceptable use policies when using their services through Speklo

Speklo stores your API keys encrypted on your device using your operating system's native secure storage. Your API keys are never transmitted to Speklo or any party other than the respective API service.

Speklo does not provide API keys, subsidize API usage costs, or guarantee the availability or pricing of any third-party API service.

3. Google Account Integration

Speklo offers optional integration with Google Calendar via OAuth 2.0:

  • Access is read-only — Speklo reads your calendar events but never creates, modifies, or deletes events
  • You can connect or disconnect your Google account at any time through the App's settings
  • When you disconnect, your OAuth tokens are revoked at Google's servers and deleted from your device
  • Your use of Google services through Speklo is subject to Google's Terms of Service

Speklo's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

4. User Responsibilities

By using Speklo, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate information when setting up your profile and configuring the App
  • Maintain the security of your device, including your user account, API keys, and any data stored by the App
  • Use the App in compliance with all applicable local, national, and international laws and regulations
  • Not use the App for any unlawful, harmful, or fraudulent purpose
  • Not attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App, except as permitted by applicable law
  • Not use the App to infringe on the rights of any third party

5. Audio Recording and Consent

Speklo enables you to record audio from your microphone and system audio. You are solely responsible for complying with all applicable recording consent laws in your jurisdiction and the jurisdictions of all meeting participants.

Recording consent laws vary significantly by location:

  • Some jurisdictions require the consent of all parties to a conversation before recording (two-party or all-party consent)
  • Some jurisdictions require the consent of only one party (one-party consent)
  • Some jurisdictions have additional requirements for recording in professional or workplace settings

Before recording any meeting, you must:

  • Determine the applicable recording consent laws for your situation
  • Obtain all required consents from meeting participants
  • Inform meeting participants that the recording may be processed by AI services for transcription and summarization

Speklo is a tool that facilitates recording and transcription. Speklo does not provide legal advice and is not responsible for ensuring your compliance with recording laws. If you are uncertain about the legal requirements in your jurisdiction, consult a qualified legal professional.

6. AI-Generated Content

Speklo uses third-party AI models (via your API keys) to generate transcriptions, summaries, chat responses, focus board content, and specifications. You acknowledge and agree that:

  • AI-generated content may contain inaccuracies, errors, omissions, or hallucinations. AI models can produce text that appears plausible but is factually incorrect
  • You should review all AI-generated content before relying on it for any purpose
  • AI-generated content does not constitute professional, legal, medical, financial, or any other form of expert advice
  • Speklo is not responsible for the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of AI-generated content
  • The quality and accuracy of AI-generated content depends on the third-party AI models and their capabilities, which are outside Speklo's control

7. Intellectual Property

  • The Speklo software, including its code, design, documentation, and branding, is the intellectual property of Janko Tomsic s.p. and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws
  • Your content belongs to you. You retain all rights to your audio recordings, transcripts, summaries, notes, focus board content, and any other data you create or import into the App
  • Speklo does not claim any ownership rights over your content
  • Speklo does not use your content to train AI or machine learning models
  • You grant Speklo no license to your content beyond what is technically necessary to provide the App's features on your local device

8. Privacy

Your use of Speklo is governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, store, and protect your information. By using Speklo, you acknowledge that you have read and understood our Privacy Policy.

9. Updates and Changes

9.1 Software Updates

Speklo may release software updates that include bug fixes, new features, performance improvements, or security patches. Updates are delivered through the App's built-in auto-update mechanism.

9.2 Changes to These Terms

We may modify these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes:

  • The updated Terms will be posted at speklo.com/terms
  • The “Last Updated” date at the top will be revised
  • Material changes will be communicated through App update release notes

Your continued use of Speklo after changes to these Terms constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you should stop using the App.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:

Speklo is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise. We disclaim all warranties, including but not limited to:

  • Merchantability — No warranty that the App is fit for commercial use or any particular purpose
  • Fitness for a particular purpose — No warranty that the App will meet your specific requirements
  • Non-infringement — No warranty that the App does not infringe on third-party rights
  • Accuracy — No warranty regarding the accuracy of AI-generated transcriptions, summaries, speaker identification, or any other output
  • Availability — No warranty of uninterrupted, timely, or error-free operation
  • Third-party services — No warranty regarding the availability, performance, accuracy, or pricing of third-party API services (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, AssemblyAI, or any other provider)

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Janko Tomsic s.p. and its affiliates, officers, employees, agents, and licensors shall not be liable for:

  • Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses
  • Any direct damages exceeding the total amount you have paid to us for the App in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim (which, for this free application, is zero)

This limitation applies regardless of the legal theory (contract, tort, negligence, strict liability, or otherwise), even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Without limiting the foregoing, we are not liable for:

  • Loss of data stored on your device (you are responsible for maintaining backups)
  • Costs or charges incurred from third-party API services used through your API keys
  • Inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading AI-generated content
  • Legal consequences arising from unauthorized or non-consensual recording of conversations
  • Service interruptions, outages, or changes by third-party API providers
  • Actions taken based on AI-generated summaries, transcriptions, or other outputs

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Janko Tomsic s.p. and its affiliates, officers, employees, and agents from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from or related to:

  • Your use of the App
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of applicable recording consent laws or other regulations
  • Your use of third-party API services through the App
  • Your content and data processed through the App
  • Your infringement of any third-party rights

13. Termination

  • By you: You may stop using Speklo at any time by uninstalling the App. Upon uninstallation, all App files are removed. Data stored in the user data directory (see Privacy Policy, Section 3.1) remains on your device until you manually delete it
  • By us: We may discontinue the App or terminate access to auto-update services at any time, with or without notice. Your locally stored data remains accessible regardless of App availability
  • Survival: Sections 6 (AI-Generated Content), 7 (Intellectual Property), 10 (Disclaimer of Warranties), 11 (Limitation of Liability), 12 (Indemnification), and 15 (Governing Law) survive termination

14. Third-Party Services

Speklo integrates with third-party services. Your use of these services is governed by their respective terms:

Speklo is not responsible for the availability, performance, terms, or privacy practices of any third-party service. Your relationship with each third-party provider is separate and independent from your relationship with Speklo.

15. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Slovenia, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

For users in the European Union, nothing in these Terms affects your rights under mandatory consumer protection laws of your country of residence.

Any disputes arising from or relating to these Terms or your use of the App shall be resolved by the competent courts in Ljubljana, Slovenia, unless mandatory consumer protection laws of your jurisdiction require otherwise.

16. General Provisions

16.1 Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.

16.2 Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Janko Tomsic s.p. regarding your use of Speklo.

16.3 Waiver

Our failure to enforce any provision of these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of that provision or any other provision.

16.4 Assignment

You may not assign or transfer your rights under these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign our rights and obligations under these Terms without restriction.
